The third book of Robertson Davies' "The Deptford Trilogy" is titled World of Wonders and tells the amazing story of Magnus Eisengrim, who began his life as Paul Dempster, was abducted by a traveling carnival and freak show, and ultimately became a world famous illusionist. Hence the title of this piece.

The Marx tin Roller Coaster reminded me of the Texas State Fair in Dallas, which I attended yearly as a child. The performing cowboy is reminiscent of Wild West Shows and rodeos. A daredevil clown drives through fire to entertain us. A ballerina twirls to get our attention. The penguin, elephant, and three small clowns perform for us, as does Sita, Queen of the Tigers - another reference to Sita, the Wonder Dog, our pug. A couple drives by, ready to buy their tickets and see the show.
